Radiological Detection System (RDS)
The Radiological Detection System (RDS) is a versatile solution for identifying radiation. The system is composed of a Base Unit and six specialized probes for various radiation detection applications.
- Base Unit: Meter interface for compatible external probes and has internal GM detectors for beta and gamma measurements.
- Alpha-Beta Probe: Scintillation detector for alpha and beta radiation. Base Unit can display simultaneous alpha and beta channel readings.
- SABG Probe: GM pancake detector for beta and gamma radiation.
- Beta Photon Probe: GM tube detector for beta, gamma, and X-ray radiation.
- Sensitive Gamma Probe: 1.125 x 1.5 in. NaI(Tl) scintillation detector for low-level gamma radiation.
- FIDLER Probe: Large NaI(Tl) scintillation detector for low-energy X-ray and gamma radiation. Records data over four energy window channels, with the ability to display up to two channels at a time.
- Neutron Probe: Solid-state neutron detector with a high-density polyethylene moderator.
Smart Probe technology allows any probe to be used with any Base Unit. Each probe has onboard memory to store its calibration information and a microprocessor and high voltage circuitry to supply the necessary high voltage.
The RDS is designed and tested for military ruggedness meeting US military requirements.
