Ludlum Universal Software is a network software package that allows users access to the collected and displayed radiation levels and alarm statuses from multiple LMI radiation detection instruments, including area monitors, sample monitors, and portal monitors. Different users may have access to different sets of instruments either by instrument type (e.g. area monitors) or by locations (e.g. all connected instruments in a certain building). Instruments that have continuous readings may be monitored for trends over specific times such as by the hour, day, or week. Instruments like gamma portal monitors record individual scans and maintain a history to make individual records for scan history.

All data is stored in a SQL database using the Microsoft SQL Server, which must be installed locally on your network. A free version, Microsoft SQL Server Express, can be downloaded from the Microsoft website.

The server can be configured to send emails or texts on alarms or failure events, designating three shifts or email/text destinations for each group (specified by serial number) of instrument, and alarms and failure event notifications sent to different people describing the event, involved instrument, location, reading, and user-added comments (comments can be added to data after it is stored via the web interface).

Optional installed and connected cameras may be configured to take an image when an alarm or error event occurs and store it in the database. The browser can also enable the user to see through the camera at any time. The SQL database enables custom reports using commercial software.
