Unlike other meter and detector combinations that require two-handed operation, the Model 26-2 combines the meter electronics and detector into a single, easy-to-use tool, simplifying the process of detecting radioactive contamination on people and objects. This optimized configuration incorporates a standard 15.5 cm² pancake GM probe and a large, auto-ranging LCD with automatic backlighting into an ergonomic housing with “click” audio and two button controls, allowing for one-handed operation.
Three modes of operation are available – RATE, MAX, and TIMED FRISK – which can be selected by pressing the MODE button. RATE mode displays the current count rate in either cps or cpm units. MAX mode captures the highest count rate detected; this is useful for finding a peak rate or for frisking when the display is not visible. TIMED FRISK mode allows the user perform a contamination frisk for a predetermined time, up to 20 minutes. When performing a timed frisk, the display will alternate between showing the current count rate and the remaining frisk time.
Up to three count rate alarms can be configured, which are automatically evaluated from lowest to highest values. Four LEDs show the current alarm status: a green LED for no alarm and three red LEDs which work in combination to signify the alarm level.
The instrument body is made of high-impact plastic, and water-resistant construction allows the instrument to be used outdoors. A wrist strap and lanyard are included for keeping the instrument close and secure. The instrument is powered by two alkaline AA batteries with a battery life of up to 250 hours.
A lightweight pole with 5 telescoping sections and an adjustable clamp to hold a Model 26 Series Frisker. Useful to access high, low, or other hard to reach places.
